What are the savings Australian consumers can expect from the installation of a solar system?
While some may try to suggest consumers will recover the cost of their solar system in 3 to 4 years the reality for most consumers is it will take closer to 10 years.
Unfortunately this information is not readily available leaving consumers vulnerable to exploitation. Steps the Government could take to address this lack of information include:
• Updating the AER’s tariff comparison website to support solar calculations
• Require customer bills clearly show solar savings
• Meters installed under the AEMC’s smart meter rollout should be required to make suitable measurements
• The ACCC should review the exaggerated claims often made in solar installer advertisements
